This fall, one of Broadstreet's Regina residents reached out about sponsoring Listen to Dis. The non-profit organization equips and enables people with disabilities to create and participate in art: for the betterment of their health, for recreation, and for the development of themselves as emerging and professional artists.
In working with the organization, Broadstreet was told that transportation is often a barrier for members who want to access the services, especially during the winter months. The organization is busy with events and workshops, but heavy weather often gets in the way.
Over the holidays, Broadstreet sponsored the organization by providing over 30 members with accessible cabs. Traci Kluk, the Artistic Director of Listen to Dis, was so thankful for the support that the organization received and recounted how beneficial their programs are for people who often face multiple barriers to participation in activities.
Traci said that the organization helps to educate and connect the greater community to people with disabilities. They meet with businesses to assist with accessibility planning, perform reviews of services, and make recommendations for improving accessibility. Their goal is to create an inclusive society for everyone.
